Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery

This week’s Vendor Story introduces Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery to DirectFood.store. Seaside Pearl is a family-owned boutique winery located in Mount Lehman, Abbotsford. The local winery is “passionate about crafting small lots of artisanal wines” to enrich every occasion.

We took a closer look at our wine partner’s products, process, and estate.

 Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery

Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery cultivates, creates, and shares small lots of artisanal wines. The company produces cool climate wines that “elegantly showcase the varietal character from which they come – distinctive and unique, balanced in richness and delicacy with a true sense of place.”

Every bottle of Seaside Pearl Wine is crafted with a story behind each name. The names are based on Mount Lehman’s agricultural history and charm. The names combine the “beauty and peaceful ambience” of Mount Lehman’s environment.

Some of Seaside Pearl’s signature wines include:

- Fraser Gold Chardonnay 2018

- Landing Road (Red Blend) 2018

- Florence Pinot Noir 2018

- Cabernet Franc 2018

- Syrah 2018 (Okanagan)

- Charlotte Estate Petite Milo 2019

The Estate

The Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery is open year-round. The estate includes a copper spired chapel tasting room and touring facility around Mount Lehman. You can see the farm “surrounded by rolling pasture, flowers, trees, and quiet country roads in the heart of Fraser Valley Wine Country”.

There are 5 acres of grapes planted on the estate which include Petit Milo, Cabernet Foch, Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Seaside Pearl also has Cabernet Foch planted on leased land in the Fraser Valley.

The winery offers a relaxed atmosphere with breathtaking views to invite visitors to sit back and experience the “true taste for the Small Lot Life”.

The Philosophy

Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery is guided by its winemaker’s philosophy. David Zimmerman believes that “every great wine begins in the vineyard” and both he and Seaside Pearl are passionate about creating wines that express a “sense of place”. David’s winemaking philosophy is as follows:

“Develop the best fruit flavours and retain these flavours during winemaking. David’s goal is to combine exceptional fruit with traditional winemaking to create wines that are a unique expression of this terroir. He is committed to crafting wines that are true to varietal character.”

The wines are handmade with personal care and, with the winery situated right at the vineyard, the grapes are turned to wine minutes after being harvested.

Being Locally Produced

Seaside Pearl wines are made from grapes grown in the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan. Every bottle is “released under labels celebrating the rich history of the Fraser Valley” and has attracted the attention of wine critics and lovers alike, receiving both national and local prize medals.

Looking Forward

Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery continues to grow under David Zimmerman. His goal is to develop and nurture Seaside Pearl grapes into “the best the Fraser Valley has to offer”.
